The ruins of the old Coventry Cathedral

St. Mary's Guildhall

St. Mary's Hall is a guildhall that was constructed between 1340–42 and much altered and extended around 1392–1430. The building has a vaulted undercroft which is currently a restaurant. It housed the imprisoned Mary, Queen of Scots in 1569.

The building has a reputation for being haunted (quite like many old buildings), but in 1985 it is believed by some that one of the spectres put in an appearance and was captured in a photograph. Jones reproduces the shot, which appears to show a hooded figure standing to the left of the top table. Apparently nobody remembers seeing such an individual at the time, but this does not mean that an actual person was not there; they may just have gone unnoticed in the proceedings.
